Antonio handed six-month driving ban

Michail Antonio has been banned from driving for six months after the former West Ham striker reached 12 penalty points. He was also ordered to pay £2,050 in fines, costs and a surcharge.

The ban followed his conviction for failing to identify who was driving his Lamborghini when it was reportedly seen being driven without due care and attention in Pall Mall last November. Claret & Hugh, citing a Press Association report carried by ESPN, says Antonio told the court that he was in Manchester and had allowed his cousin to arrange the loan of the car. Magistrates rejected his defence that the original police letter had not arrived.

The distinction matters: Antonio was convicted of failing to identify the driver, and the court did not find that he was behind the wheel on this occasion.
