West Ham mourn Ludek Miklosko after death aged 64
Ludek Miklosko has died aged 64. West Ham are mourning a goalkeeper and coach whose name was still sung long after his playing days.
His son Martin announced the death in a family statement published by talkSPORT. He thanked West Ham supporters and former teammates, saying their messages had comforted his father during his illness.
BBC's career retrospective recalls Miklosko arriving from Banik Ostrava in February 1990 for £300,000. The broadcaster says he became the first footballer to move from Czechoslovakia to England. He spent eight years with West Ham and later returned as goalkeeping coach.
He was named Hammer of the Year in the 1991 promotion season. His performance in the 1-1 draw with Manchester United on the final day of 1994-95 helped deny United the title and left Blackburn as champions. BBC recalls him describing West Ham as his 'second family'.
talkSPORT reports that West Ham will honour him before Tuesday's Carabao Cup tie against Fulham and dedicate the home Championship fixture against Queens Park Rangers on 9 October to him.
